Job Description
ECU College of Education- Future Teachers of North Carolina is currently seeking several Student Leaders to assist with the planning and implementation of a three-day, two-night summer program called Pirate Institute for Regional Aspiring Teachers and Educators. During the PIRATE program, rising high school Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will participate in an immersive on-campus experience and learn about ECU, Teacher Education programs, and student life.
Duties Include

  • Complete required, mandatory training sessions.
  • Plan and lead icebreaker, teambuilding, and networking activities.
  • Prepare program supplies and materials.
  • Provide customer service to program participants, families and guests during the program.
  • Assist with program setup and check-in and closing activities.
  • Promote the PIRATE program via ECU/COE social media outlets.
  • Facilitate discussions amongst program participants during sessions.
  • Assist with the transportation of program participants.
  • Answer questions, provide guidance, and actively engage program participants.
  • Perform other duties as needed/assigned.
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.


The program dates are June 16-18, 2026. Student leaders must be available the day before, June 15, to assist with program set up. Student Leaders will work with the Program Director and other ECU Faculty and Staff. Student Leaders will assist with overseeing and walking program participants to sessions throughout campus. The Student Leaders will help lead and facilitate team building and instructional activities and establish positive rapport with program participants.
PIRATE Program Student Leader pay is $12.50 per hour for the three-day program and includes the option for staff to stay overnight in a residence hall at no cost. Meals will be provided during in-person training and for the duration of the event.

Contingent upon funding availability.
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)

  • Experience with teaching, instruction, leadership, program administration and oversight is desired.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift/carry at least 50lbs.
  • Confidentiality and professionalism is REQUIRED.
  • Appropriate office/business casual attire is required.


Final candidates are subject to criminal, sex offender, and motor vehicle background checks.
