JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State is searching for a full time Transportation Access Systems Technician - Grade 4 to join the team. Duties include:
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform general repairs on automated parking system equipment, such as permit dispensers, parking meters, facility count systems, fixed and mobile license plate recognition systems, pay stations, gate boxes, digital signage, and cameras; repair and/or replace damaged gate arms
  • Respond to requests for assistance regarding automated parking system equipment or service issues
  • Report equipment failures directly to parking office and supervisor at time of failure
  • Implement emergency repairs and procedures during outages and systems failures
  • Identify, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment malfunctions and operational issues such as hardware failure, unresponsive equipment, error messages, network connectivity, etc.
  • Perform replacement/repairs or coordinate the repair of communications equipment such as cables, cable terminations points, modems, wireless switches, wireless access points, wireless bridges, etc.
  • Read and interpret schematic drawings to maintain and repair various electrical components such as hardwired power systems, battery systems, credit card systems, barcode readers, thermal printers, bill to bill recyclers, solar panels, etc.
  • Perform general testing and troubleshooting of parking equipment software
  • Modify lot settings and lot setting tables to update parking permit types and pay rates
  • Request support from central office or appropriate vendor when on-site procedures have failed to resolve problem(s)
  • Implement predetermined hardware and software upgrades in the field; execute test scenarios, validate test data, and document test results
  • Ensure physical security of parking assets and equipment to prevent theft and/or damage
  • Report facility, building, and security issues to appropriate personnel
  • Track and maintain service call records and other documentation as requested by management
  • Serve as a liaison with system vendors and manufacturer representatives
  • Transport, maintain, and set-up variable message boards for events and traffic control
  • Assemble barricades; set-up cones and signs for events, special parking arrangements, etc.
  • Maintain inventory of regularly used parts and supplies, such as gate arms, receipt paper, ticket stock, and other parking related items
  • Communicate with management to order and replenish supplies. Inspect parking lots, garages, signage, etc. for safety issues and/or disrepair
  • Report issues to supervisor and/or University Police as necessary
  • Place barricades or cones as necessary to maintain a safe environment
  • Direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic within parking areas during an emergency, system outage, or as assigned
  • Use a variety of portable hand/power tools and test equipment
  • Operate University vehicles

Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience.

Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
