Job Summary

The Systems Administrator (RHEL) manages the full lifecycle of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems within the CSM environment. This role is critical for ensuring the stability, security, and performance of Linux-based services operating within the Azure Government Cloud. You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks from routine maintenance to high-level configuration of hybrid cloud environments supporting DoD Data Impact Levels 2, 4, and 5.

Responsibilities

  • RHEL Lifecycle & Environment Management
  • Deliver routine maintenance, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, upgrades, and break-fix support for RHEL 8 & 9 (or later) operating systems.
  • Scale and maintain all supported RHEL versions to enable hybrid cloud environments between on-premises applications and Azure services.
  • Manage servers, clusters, hyper-converged infrastructures, and Windows PCs within the RHEL ecosystem.
  • Provision and maintain Azure Dedicated Hosts and Host Groups to ensure hardware isolation for isolated Data Impact Level workloads.
  • Configure and maintain Azure Hybrid Benefits specifically for RHEL Servers to optimize licensing and costs.
  • Core Services & Infrastructure Support
  • Provide maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting for essential RHEL Support Services, including:
  • LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol)
  • SYSLOG (System Logging Protocol)
  • DNS/BIND (Domain Name Services/Berkeley Internet Name Domain)
  • JAVA, NTP (Network Time Protocol), and SMTP/Mail Relay
  • Maintain Red Hat Satellite Server, or other approved services, to manage, distribute, and install updates for RHEL products across CSM.
  • Configure and scale cloud backup solutions using Azure Backup and managed snapshots for robust data protection and disaster recovery.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance
  • Proactively identify and remediate security vulnerabilities to protect the integrity of Linux-based services.
  • Maintain strict DISA STIG compliance for all Linux systems utilizing SCAP tools or Navy eVALUATE.
  • Support compliance with the DoD Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide (CC SRG) and NIST SP 800-53 security controls.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of cloud engineering experience with specific expertise in Azure administration and cloud architecture.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Strong background in RHEL 8/9 administration and Linux support services
  • Proficiency in database management and security
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevSecOps toolchains
  • Top Secret Clearance Required (Secret Clearance okay to start role but must be eligible for Top Secret)
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Certification: Security+ certification
  • If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional cloud certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Associate)
  • Proven experience implementing DISA STIG configurations for Linux environments
