Job Summary

The AV Field Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, configuring, servicing, and commissioning complex audiovisual systems in both office and field environments. This contract-to-hire role supports multiple projects simultaneously and requires strong technical knowledge of control systems, DSP platforms, networked AV equipment, and commercial AV installations. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with large-scale AV systems, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret technical documentation, coordinate technical project requirements, and support successful project delivery.

Job Responsibilities




  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve equipment and system issues in a service support environment.



  • Test system components and functions and verify field connections, labeling, installation quality, and overall system performance.



  • Create and coordinate drawing packages, including signal flow diagrams, display and equipment elevations, speaker placement layouts, and conduit requirements.



  • Review AV system designs, identify missing or incorrect materials, and revise designs as needed.



  • Prepare change orders and support design updates throughout the project lifecycle.



  • Manage multiple projects and service tasks at the same time while maintaining quality and deadlines.



  • Provide remote technical support for installed AV systems.



  • Troubleshoot and repair control systems, including Crestron-based systems.



  • Interpret advanced system drawings, specifications, blueprints, and technical manuals.



  • Create shop drawings and submittals to support project kick-off and execution.



  • Configure, commission, and support control systems, DSPs, mixers, wireless microphones, video systems, and lighting systems.



  • Perform basic programming and configuration of DSP platforms, including Biamp, QSC, BSS, and ClearOne.



  • Perform basic programming and configuration of control systems and AV devices, including Crestron, Extron, AMX, matrix mixers, switchers, and VTC systems such as Cisco and Polycom.



  • Commission and tune audio systems, including complex multi-divisible commercial environments.



  • Support both in-house and on-site field operations as required.



  • Assist with project punch-list completion and project closeout activities.



  • Oversee technical project coordination, including alignment with IT and network requirements.



  • Coordinate network requirements with clients, including switch configuration for multicast traffic and VLAN management.



  • Assist with product and system demonstrations as needed.



  • Support project management with change order design input and estimate development.



  • Complete other duties as assigned.




Job Requirements




  • Experience commissioning large-scale commercial AV systems independently.



  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting control panels and control systems, including Crestron, Extron, and QSC.



  • Experience uploading, configuring, and troubleshooting DSP systems, including Biamp and QSC/Q-SYS.



  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting VLAN networks.



  • Experience tuning complex commercial audio systems.



  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting VTC systems, including Cisco and Polycom.



  • Ability to create and coordinate full drawing packages, including signal flow diagrams, display and equipment elevations, speaker placement layouts, and conduit requirements.



  • Ability to define project scope, develop detailed task plans, and manage work through final completion and client turnover.



  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints, specifications, reporting requirements, and quality standards.



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and MS Project.



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information clearly.



  • Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.



  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and maintain a professional, positive approach.



  • Ability to travel within the assigned local or regional territory as needed.



  • Self-motivated with the ability to support process improvement and lead by example.



  • Experience with Crestron programming or DSP file creation preferred.



  • Networking coursework preferred.



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred.



  • Certifications preferred: CTS, EAVA, Crestron Programmer 1, and Q-SYS Level 1.



  • Additional preferred certifications include AVIXA CTS, Crestron, Extron, QSC/Q-SYS, and advanced Dante certifications.



  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant AV engineering or field engineering experience preferred.

  • Contract-to-hire position



  • Typical start time is 7:00 a.m.



  • Expected schedule is approximately 40 to 45 hours per week



  • Work is performed in both office and field settings



  • Project environments may include corporate, retail, educational, industrial, and healthcare locations



  • Primary focus is large-scale commercial AV projects
