Assistant Project Manager - MD/DC/Northern Virginia

Fayis a self-perform heavy civil and industrial contractor delivering complex infrastructure projects across the Mid-Atlantic, including roads, bridges, dams, utilities, and demolition, through design-build, CMAR, and traditional delivery methods. Basic Position Summary: Assist the Superintendent and Project Management Team in managing all aspects of a construction project including the financial administration and cost reporting activities. This position is predominately based in the field.

Responsibilities/Functions



  • In conjunction with the Project Manager, Sr. Project Manager, or Project Director & Superintendent, participates in developing, maintaining and revising the project schedule
  • Manages the relationship and work of assigned sub-contractors & suppliers
  • Mentors and guides less experienced Project Engineers
  • Communicates with owners about various project related matters and concerns
  • Demonstrates, communicates, and reinforces the all Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction
  • May also perform the following duties depending on the size of the assigned project



    • Based on quantity takeoffs, manages the ordering of materials needed to successfully execute the project.
    • Assists with pre-construction activities as needed: construction planning and design; interpretation of design and drawings;
    • Interprets designs and drawings and prepares quantity takeoffs
    • Prepares drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, estimates, etc.
    • Verifies work-in-place quantities for invoicing/pay quantities; verifies accurate payment of subcontractors and material suppliers
    • Maintains submittal logs and timely receipt and review of submittals and shop drawings
    • Assembles construction financial data; monitors costs; tracks costs for force accounts
    • Maintains job costing system and updates systems to reflect forecasts; creates margin reporting
    • Ensures craft time cards are completed accurately, reflecting hours worked and tasks worked on; assigns cost codes to all purchases, time cards, contracts, equipment time and any other item involving cost
    • Maintains as-built drawings; posts RFI, bulletin and ASI as appropriate
    • Maintains RFI logs and timely response to job questions
    • Assists with constructability reviews and value engineering functions
    • Develops, implements and administers project engineering procedures and other work documents; tracks and logs documentation
    • Takes weekly jobsite photographs
    • Maintains all safety records
    • Assists in preparing project status reports and participates in project status meetings; assists in development of meeting minutes
    • Assists in project close-out activities
    • May support estimates as needed



Essential skills and experience



  • A minimum of 4 years of field construction experience
  • 4 year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and related experience
  • E.I.T. preferred but not required
  • Ability to mentor less experienced personnel
  • Ability to read and interpret plans
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Thorough understanding of cost analysis & estimating
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel as required



Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required toCarry tools and equipment,climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and see and hear well (either naturally or with correction), stand; walk, (stand for long periods of time) handle, or feel; use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects. The employee must frequently work or walk on uneven ground and is required to always wear steel-toed boots. It is mandatory that the employee wear approved personal protective equipment.The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Perform a variety of duties while exposed to outside elementsor confined spaces. Repeat tasks of short duration according to set procedures and evaluate information using measurable. Follow set procedures and standards.
