Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for providing and integrating innovative and cost-effective engineering design in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards for all phases of the process engineering work in a multi-discipline team approach. You will also be actively involved in team approach and makes recommendations to deliver integrated process/systems as specified and contracted.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Application of Knowledge of Process Systems
    • Supports execution of the process scope of services that meets customer's project requirements and learns to comply with all applicable codes, ordinances, standards and regulations.
    • Applies experience and engineering knowledge to support development of technical proposals and execute projects.
    • Supports planning, conducting and coordinating all process engineering functions based on their review of a project scope of work pertaining to both process operations and utility systems with focus on process design, operation, and material/equipment selection.
    • Effectively communicates with other engineers, project managers, clients and suppliers.
    • Learns to follow engineering procedures.
  • Design
    • Participates in project strategy meetings, develops design concepts and recommends systems.
    • Supports production of well-organized, finished drawings of good appearance, accuracy, clarity and correctness.
    • Maintains orderly work files and prepares clear, well written correspondence.
    • Researches, learns and documents discipline design compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, standards and regulations.
    • Researches and documents discipline design compliance with proposal/client criteria.
    • Executes or coordinates with designers for layout.
    • Performs and/or checks engineering calculations and analyses.
    • Supports writing discipline specifications for assigned projects.
    • Supports placement of safety symbols on construction documents as necessary for discipline.
    • Supports technical review of project technical requirements with team to define work plan.
    • Assists with plotting, production and assembly of drawing packages.
    • Develops or verifies utility matrixes, equipment lists, equipment specifications and controls.
    • Develops and/or reviews discipline specific drawings, schedules and calculations for assigned projects.
  • Construction Support
    • Participates in plant surveys or field inspections, development of solutions to field problems, preparation of field orders, addenda and record drawings.
    • Provides clarification of the design, responding to contractor inquiries, and supports site support for equipment installation, start-up and commissioning efforts.
    • Supports project startup, commissioning, verification and closeout tasks.
    • Provides timely solutions to field problems and prepares field orders, addenda and record drawings.
    • Advises and assists construction project managers, superintendents and subcontractors in the interpretation and clarification of construction documents.
    • Participates as requested in construction inspection to monitor compliance with design intent, construction drawings and specifications. Inspections may occur at the client's site or at a vendor. Prepares inspection reports
  • Project Management
    • Supports team in both internal and external (clients/vendors) design reviews throughout the project.
    • Prepares presentation materials
    • Supports the project team with the identification of consulting partners (equipment & automation) and pre-qualifies them for appropriate services.
    • Writes scope of work (SOW) and develops/assembles all technical drawings required to issue bid packages.
    • Supports management of bid packages in terms of evaluating bids for technical conformance, participates in overall vendor selection and provides technical support to the procurement team throughout the purchase cycle.
    • Reviews and comments on vendor submittal documents for conformance with contract documents.
    • Monitors client requests against the proposal and known scope of work. Supports development of engineering change notices under the direction of the project manager.
    • Coordinates work with other disciplines and participates in interdisciplinary coordination checks and QA/QC reviews to minimize deficiencies, errors and omissions in drawings and specifications.
    • Supports creating and/or updating standards and procedures for executing projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Planning, Scheduling, and Profitability
    • Creates discipline work plan for assigned projects. Monitors workload status, advising supervisor of difficulties in accomplishing schedules.
    • Supports production and man-hour estimate for project effort for all work in process discipline. Supports process related budgets under the direction of the project manager.
    • Supports pricing and proposal presentation documents.
    • Assists in coordinating information with and monitoring efforts/costs of discipline-related outside consultants.
    • Tracks actual hours worked each week for themselves, and informs director if deliverables are tracking within schedule and budget.
    • Coordinates with team to produce a well-coordinated, technically sound, complete set of documents reflecting the required scope of work on time and within the budget.
    • Assists the project team in RFP responses, developing proposals including the preparation of conceptual estimates, schedules and other proposal documents.
  • Professional Development
    • Opportunities to pursue FE or PE license working with Professional Engineers.
    • Participates in professional organizations in terms of memberships and/or educations courses and seminars.
  • Leadership
    • Adheres to established company standards and policies
    • Directs technical efforts of discipline subordinates assigned to the project
    • Self-starter who works well within groups and individually to further improve and contribute to the growth and effectiveness of the department.
  • Travel as required
  • Other duties which may be assigned as needed

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree required. Bachelor's degree in accredited curriculum such as Chemical and/or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

  • Practical experience in some of the following: fermentation, distillation, thermal processing, heat exchangers, fluid transfers (fittings, valves, pumps), evaporation, sterilization, CIP, SIP and systems automation/integration in both consumer and bulk food processing.
  • General knowledge of design-build and EPC practices, coordination, and execution
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
