Position Summary/ Department Summary:
The Department of Plastic and Oral Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital has a rich tradition of research and discovery, with an expansive interest in many different areas of reconstructive plastic and oral surgery including adolescent breast/chest conditions, craniofacial anomalies, cleft lip palate, and more.
Our department is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant (CRA) to work under the supervision of one of our craniofacial surgeons to study the medical and surgical management of Parry-Romberg Syndrome, a rare craniofacial disorder characterized by progressive hemifacial atrophy.

This role will involve collaborating with the departments of Dermatology and Rheumatology at Boston Children's Hospital to comprehensively assess progression/stabilization among patients exhibiting PRS symptomology through the use of 3D photogrammetric analysis, as well as retrospectively investigating the management and prognosis of patients with PRS over the past 40 years.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Under supervision of the principal investigator (PI), performs all clinic-based research activities including, but not limited to, prospective data collection and analysis, clinical 2-dimensional and 3-dimensonal imaging, and/or surgical specimen collection.
  • Consents and recruits patients for research studies on behalf of the PI. Provides detailed background of research study to families/patients and determines their suitability of prospective studies.
  • Coordinates and prepares the necessary documentation for Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Committee on Clinical Investigations (CCI) submissions, together with the PI.
  • Assists the PI in the preparation and submission of publishable manuscripts, preparation and submission of conference abstracts, and presentation of research posters or oral presentations at regional/national conferences.
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team involving dermatologists and rheumatologists to obtain and analyze imaging for patients. This involves the use of Microsoft PowerPoint to prepare imaging slides for team review.
  • Coordinates and prepares the necessary documents to obtain and complete grant-funded applications and projects.
  • Serves as a liaison between the PI and various other study sites as part of a multi-institutional research consortium.
  • Guided by clinical research managers and other researchers, performs other research and quality improvement projects as assigned or required from the department.
  • Performs other miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree

Experience Required:
  • Ability to maintain participant data confidentiality and adhere to study protocols
  • Ability to take initiative, work on multiple projects with different teams, and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a demanding academic medicine environment
  • Flexibility to adapt and troubleshoot as needed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Beneficial, but not required:
  • Experience communicating or working with patients
  • Experience with statistical programming software such as STATA, SAS, SPSS, or R
  • Prior research and/or plastic/oral surgery experience

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
