Purpose of the Role

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) provides enterprise-wide leadership for technology strategy, innovation, and execution. This role is responsible for shaping the organization's technological direction to support business objectives, enhance client value, empower employees, and enable long-term growth and competitive advantage within the AEC industry. The CTO partners closely with executive leadership to ensure technology initiatives are aligned with organizational strategy, client needs, and future market opportunities.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a visionary, collaborative, and execution-oriented CTO to lead the next evolution of technology across our organization. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will work across disciplines and functions to design and deliver a modern, secure, and scalable technology ecosystem that meets internal needs and expands external client offerings. This is a unique opportunity to drive technological innovation-from AI and automation to data platforms and digital products-while fostering a people-centered, inclusive culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute a long-term, enterprise-wide technology strategy aligned with business objectives, client needs, and organizational goals.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive leadership, providing insight on emerging technologies and their strategic impact.
  • Operationalize the technology vision by executing clear roadmaps, disciplined investments, and measurable outcomes across platforms, data, AI, and digital capabilities.
  • Collaborate with executive peers, including the CIO and other business leaders, to ensure strong alignment between technology and operations.

Innovation & Client Impact

  • Champion innovation and the adoption of emerging technologies such as AI, automation, and advanced data solutions where they create meaningful value.
  • Translate intellectual capital into scalable, repeatable, tech-enabled products and services that differentiate the organization in the marketplace.
  • Partner with internal teams and clients to understand needs and deliver high-quality, client-focused technology solutions.
  • Enable and govern digital delivery and modelbased design by setting enterprise standards and direction so CAD/BIM platforms consistently improve quality, efficiency, risk management, and scalable project delivery

Technology Delivery, Infrastructure, Security & Governance (CIO-led, CTO-supported)

  • Support the CIO's oversight of the design, development, and deployment of secure, scalable, and future-ready systems and infrastructure.
  • Partner with the CIO to advance system modernization to improve integration, usability, and performance.
  • Support the CIO in establishing and maintaining best-in-class cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance practices aligned with recognized frameworks (e.g., CMMC).
  • Partner with the CIO to champion strong data governance, security, and analytics strategies that enable informed decision-making and business insight.

People & Culture

  • Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing technology teams, fostering innovation, accountability, operational excellence, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Promote a culture of learning, transparency, and continuous improvement aligned with organizational values.
  • Champion and communicate to employees a vision and direction for technology to meet the evolving needs of clients and communities that puts people first.

What Success Looks Like

  • A clearly defined and executed technology roadmap delivering measurable business outcomes and client solutions.
  • Collaboration with CIO to deliver improved efficiency, scalability, and security of enterprise technology systems.
  • High-performing, collaborative technology teams aligned with business priorities.
  • Enhanced products, revenue-generating services, and client experiences enabled by technology innovation.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 20 years' experience in information technology, including significant leadership experience in a senior technology role architecture and engineering firm or client thereof.
  • Proven success leading digital transformation, enterprise systems, and technology strategy execution within the architecture and engineering consulting industry.
  • Strong understanding of modern technology trends and their application to business and client needs.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and executive-level influence skills.
