Job Details:

Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented 3D Printing Technician to join our team. The intention of this position is in supporting the 3D printing of complex and challenging components for Applied Research Laboratories (ARL).

Responsibilities
  • Work independently and manage multiple tasks while maintaining situational awareness for the appropriate use of PPE.

  • Organize and maintain a clean work area for 3D printing machines and materials, suggest shop layout changes for better workflow or to accommodate different equipment.

  • Operate, maintain, and repair equipment such as 3D printers, oven, filament dryer, sandblasting cabinet, SLS powder sifting station.

  • Coordinate with management and equipment manufacturers to handle complex repairs.

  • Use several different 3D printer software packages to control 3D printers.

  • Correlate between each specific software package and its intended printer.

  • Post-process 3D printed parts by cleaning, sanding, painting, etc.

  • Transfer and track digital 3D model files.

  • Convert file types, store and organize the files to be able to generate and track 3D printed part requests.

  • Assist with procurement and inventory management of materials and supplies to 3D print.

  • Assist engineers and scientists in the design process for creating 3D printed parts.

  • Produce 3D printed items according to their specific design specifications.

  • Assist in the training and support of new users in 3D printing technology.

  • Proactively participate in the improvement and innovation of manufacturing processes, seeking new methods for efficient component fabrication.

  • Keep abreast of new 3D printing technologies and materials.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • HS/GED.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Windows.

  • Proficiency in use of a keyboard and mouse, to select, copy, paste, type, send and receive email, and search the internet.

  • Two years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of 3D printing technologies and materials.

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and clients, and explain complex technical information to colleagues.

  • General neatness, proclivity to keep work space tidy and organized.

US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and slicing software such as: PreForm, Cura, Repetier, Bambu Studio, Solidworks, PrusaSlicer.

  • Experience with other manufacturing fabrication processes.

  • Experience in Quality Control of manufactured parts.

  • Experience in database and inventory management.

  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering principles.

  • Ability to research known issues and corrective actions for 3D printing failures.

  • Certification in 3D printing or additive manufacturing.

  • Able to interpret ASME Y14.5 standard technical drawings.

  • Experience in mentoring and training.

Salary Range

$45,000-$49,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications.

Working Conditions
  • Work in a shared integration lab, with access to machining equipment, with specialized areas: inspection rooms, material prep area, manufacturing floor, tool room area, weld shop, and 3D printing lab.

  • Work in a production environment building assemblies that involve adhesives, potting compounds, solvents, and other hazardous materials.

  • May work around electrical and mechanical hazards.

  • Some weekend, evening and holiday work.
