Job Summary

The Traveling QA/QC Manager ensures plumbing, HVAC ductwork, hydronic piping (chilled water, condenser water, heating water), and refrigerant systems are installed in full compliance with company standards, project specifications, and applicable codes.

This role provides field leadership across multiple active projects, conducts inspections, drives corrective actions, supports commissioning, and promotes continuous improvement. Frequent regional or national travel is required.


Essential Duties

Field Quality Oversight

  • Conduct on-site inspections of plumbing, ductwork, hydronic, and refrigerant systems
  • Verify compliance with drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codes (UPC, IPC, IMC, ASHRAE, local)
  • Review pressure tests, leak tests, TAB reports, and system performance data
  • Manage punch lists and non-conformance reports (NCRs)
  • Support commissioning and startup activities

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to maintain installation quality
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for mechanical and plumbing quality standards
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Support projects requiring dedicated QA/QC oversight
  • Participate in owner and contractor quality meetings

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain inspection reports, quality logs, and closeout documentation
  • Track and verify corrective actions
  • Identify recurring issues and recommend process improvements
  • Promote Lean principles and waste reduction practices

Travel

  • Travel regularly to active job sites (regional or national)
  • Support final inspections, commissioning, and project closeout
  • Overnight stays may be required; rental vehicle provided for out-of-area assignments

Minimum Requirements

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5-10+ years of commercial mechanical/plumbing/HVAC experience
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Plumbing systems (domestic water, waste, vent, gas)
    • HVAC ductwork (SMACNA standards preferred)
    • Hydronic systems (chilled water, condenser water, heating water)
    • Refrigerant piping, pressure testing, evacuation, charging
  • Experience performing field inspections and quality audits
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Procore, and Bluebeam
  • Willingness to travel extensively

Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Quality, or related field
  • Journeyman or Master Plumbing/HVAC License
  • EPA 608 Certification
  • OSHA 30
  • Prior QA/QC management experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk active construction sites
  • Climb ladders and access mechanical spaces
  • Work in varying weather conditions
  • Travel with overnight stays as needed
