What You'll Do

The HR Business Partner serves as a trusted advisor to schools and departments during universitywide initiatives designed to improve administrative effectiveness at Tufts. Works closely with leadership to develop and implement workforce plans and strategic, operational, and tactical staffing and management strategies. Participates in regular strategy and projectplanning sessions as a thought partner. Contributes to largescale, crossdepartmental initiatives and participates in other HRled projects as needed.
  • Assesses school and department needs and develops/introduces HR solutions or initiatives that support strategic business objectives to help move the organization forward, demonstrating thorough understanding of the department/division/school/campus culture, priorities and tactical realities while balancing the requests of the groups with university policy and guidelines.
  • Acts as a partner to both employees and leadership, management coach, and change agent, leading initiatives proactively to support employee engagement and organization development.

  • Responsible for leading or contributing to projects related to various groups and units; participates on HR-sponsored projects and assignments based on a broad HRBP knowledge or practice areas.
  • Delivers clear, effective written and verbal communication, including project plans, initiatives, development work, and training materials to support internal and external HR priorities.
  • Assists university senior management in developing effective workforce plans, identifying potential staffing gaps, organizational development opportunities, and workforce risks. Partners with leaders to align workforce strategies with business needs, support organizational change and promote utilization of talent.
  • Interprets and appropriately applies university policies to resolve complex employee relations issues.

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive human resources or related experience.
  • Experience supporting organizational change and assist with identifying appropriate talent and institutional resources necessary to achieve results.
  • Experience advising leaders on performance management, talent, and accountability, including coaching managers through complex employee matters.
  • A solid understanding and demonstrable knowledge of employment laws, employee relations, compensation practices, organizational diagnosis and design, workforce planning, and sourcing.
  • Applies knowledge of internal structures, processes, and culture to resourcing efforts.
  • Orchestrates multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish a goal.
  • Collaborates with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives. Gains trust and support of others.
  • Communicates effectively in one-on-one, small and large group settings, or among diverse styles and position levels.
  • Sets objectives to align with broader organizational goals. Stages activities with relevant milestones and schedules.
  • Manages complexity, asks the right questions to accurately analyze situations, acquires data from appropriate sources and offers solutions with analysis of risks and benefits.
  • Strong technology skills and ability to manage work across multiple systems that are not fully integrated.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong employee relations experience, including conflict management and the consistent application of HR policies and employment practices, in partnership with the Office of General Counsel and other internal partners
  • Experience working collaboratively across HR functions to deliver integrated HR solutions
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Suite, ERP systems, case management, and other HR administrative systems
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, JDX, iCIMS is a plus

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

  • May require attendance at meetings with clients at varied campus locations.

Pay Range

Minimum $87,400.00, Midpoint $109,300.00, Maximum $131,200.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
