Undergraduate Admissions Counselor

This position is responsible for managing a territory and recruiting students throughout the admissions process. This includes travelling to college fairs, high school visits, and regional presentations to build leads. The counselor should maintain contact with students and families throughout the application and admission process. This includes actively calling and messaging to gauge interest and assist in enrolling the prospective students. The counselor recruits, evaluates, and participates in the selection of candidates for admission and awards academic merit scholarship. Counselor must maintain connection with other constituents in the assigned territory, including High School Counselors, Creighton Alumni, and current Creighton parents. Counselor will develop public presentations designed to promote the institution. Presentations may range in size from a single student to a large audience of 500.

Due to travel and need for consistent follow-up with students and families, this position often requires over 40 hours per week, as well as night and weekend work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Corresponds with students. Follows up with visitors/applicants as well as answering phone and e-mail communications. Works directly with families to assist in all aspects of admissions process and ultimately assisting with enrollment.
  • Meets with prospective students on campus. Give individualized appointments to students and families. Also, give group presentations.
  • Reviews applicant credentials to admit students and award scholarships. Works with admission staff and committees preparing the applicant files for review. Works with applicants regarding the completion of their files.
  • Serves as representative at campus visit days throughout the calendar year. Help to plan some aspects of the visit programs.
  • Travel to meet with students in an assigned territory. This includes personal interviews, college fairs, high school visits, and regional receptions. Also, maintain relationships with high school counselors, alumni, and Creighton parents in that territory

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 to 3 years related advising/counseling experience is preferred.
