Position Description

ENSCO operates and supports activities at the Transportation Technology Center (TTC) in Pueblo, Colorado. TTC is a premier rail and surface transportation research, testing, and training facility supporting federal, commercial, and international clients. The facility enables full-scale infrastructure, vehicle, and systems testing in a controlled and operationally relevant environment, advancing transportation safety, resiliency, sustainability, and innovation


ENSCO has an opening for a motivated, self-starting Mechanical Engineer Intern with an interest in a career working in the field of electro-mechanical systems, machine design, structural design, instrumentation, and data analysis and testing.


This position offers a chance to enhance educational experience by working in a team of engineers engaged in projects to develop technology and testing programs well as wayside instrumentation for railway applications. The intern is expected to work minimum of 10 weeks throughout the summer of 2026.


Duties will include but are not limited to:
* Assist in developing and executing testing and research programs at TTC
* Perform track wayside and vehicle instrumentation setups and calibrations
* Assist in mechanical engineering and system engineering related to remote control locomotive systems
* Help with fabrication, assembly, inspection of mechanical components, and laboratory testing for instrumentation such as strain gages, temperature and other sensors


Qualifications Required
* A rising Sophomore / Junior / Senior currently enrolled as an undergraduate student working towards a Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil engineering or equivalent with 1-3 years experience
* Experience with data analysis using tools such as MATLAB or Python
* Experience with laboratory testing and instrumentation design that includes strain gages and temperature sensors
* Strong computer skills
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent organizational skills


Qualifications Desired
* Experience with vehicle maintenance and repair
* Experience with vehicle control systems
* Experience with strain gauge load cell signal calibration, conditioning, and analysis
