Power Generation Technician/Operator - JLL

What this job involves:

As a Power Generation Technician/Operator at JLL, you will be the technical cornerstone of an 8,000 kW power generation facility, ensuring reliable and continuous operation of five (5) 1,600 kW generator units that provide critical power to our client's operations. This hands-on role combines operational oversight with preventative maintenance, requiring strong mechanical aptitude and meticulous attention to detail in a demanding industrial environment. You will be responsible for monitoring system performance, conducting routine inspections, and performing maintenance tasks that directly impact facility uptime and energy reliability. Your technical expertise and commitment to safety will ensure the power generation system operates at peak efficiency while maintaining compliance with all regulatory and environmental standards. This position offers the opportunity to work with large-scale industrial power systems in a safety-critical environment where your skills make a measurable impact every day.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Operate, monitor, and service an 8,000 kW generator system consisting of five (5) 1,600 kW units, ensuring continuous and reliable power generation
  • Perform daily rounds, inspections, and operational checks of generation equipment, accurately documenting operational data and maintenance activities
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks including filter changes, minor mechanical servicing, and equipment upkeep to maintain optimal system performance
  • Maintain cleanliness of the cogeneration facility, shop areas, and equipment, including light janitorial duties and restroom cleaning as required
  • Greet and escort visitors, contractors, and inspectors when on site, ensuring compliance with facility safety and security protocols
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and compliance requirements, wearing required PPE including hearing protection, respirators, and fall protection as necessary
  • Work at heights using ladders, platforms, and elevated work areas while performing duties in loud, dusty, hot, and cold conditions

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience servicing and operating large-scale generators (1,600 kW units or equivalent)
  • Experience in power generation, powerhouse operations, industrial maintenance, or a related field
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills with the ability to follow written procedures and safety standards
  • Physical capability to frequently lift and move heavy materials and tools, stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods
  • Ability to work in noisy environments around running equipment and perform duties in loud, dusty, hot, and cold conditions
  • Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and willingness to perform cleaning and housekeeping duties as part of daily operations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in cogeneration or utility-scale power facilities
  • Electrical or mechanical certifications or licenses (e.g., stationary engineer, power plant operator, or similar credentials)
  • Experience working in regulated or safety-critical environments with demonstrated knowledge of compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for documentation and work order tracking
  • Experience with emergency response procedures and generator start-up/shutdown protocols[Source: NEW Description Template.docx]
