Broad IT provides support for more than 1,200 lab instruments, desktops, and laptops across Broad's several buildings. Reporting to the Director of Lab IT, you will work alongside our front-line team, directly interacting with our researchers to address both the tactical and strategic needs of the Broad Institute's labs. The primary focus of this summer internship will be to help complete a comprehensive inventory of our lab IT assets, while also assisting with day-to-day support operations.

Characteristic Duties

  • Main Project: Lead the execution and completion of a comprehensive inventory of lab IT assets, maintaining accurate asset management logs for all instrumentation within the labs.
  • Assist with the initial triage and resolution for reported Lab IT incidents.
  • Support the Broad research labs by helping to examine, document, and improve IT processes and procedures.
  • Aid in the integration of lab equipment into existing Broad IT infrastructure and services.
  • Help install and support research applications used in the acquisition and analysis of raw research data.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in a technical discipline, building an in-depth understanding of modern computing technology.
  • Basic network troubleshooting skills (ping, traceroute, ipconfig, etc.).
  • Familiarity with working on the command line.
  • Strong OS operation & troubleshooting experience (Windows & Linux).
  • Previous customer service experience and a team-player mentality.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision with expert time management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience writing, following, and managing technical documentation.
  • Basic cloud experience, GCP preferred (Buckets, distributed computing concepts).
  • Familiarity with or interest in lab systems (e.g., Illumina, NovaSeq, Hamilton) and research tools (e.g., Jupyter Notebooks, Graphpad, Prism).
Working Conditions
  • Normal office and wet-lab (BL1, BL2, BL3) conditions; PPE as well as appropriate attire are required in labs.
  • This role is a required on-site position and will support multiple Broad locations in Cambridge, MA, and also in Burlington, MA, periodically.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
