THE POSITION

The Corrections Food Service Instructor with the Department of Corrections (DOC) supports smooth and efficient food operations at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Waymart. This role gives you the opportunity to teach practical skills while keeping daily meal service running on schedule. You help create a steady team environment that promotes structure and consistency. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position leads inmates in food service tasks that support organized, sanitary, and efficient meal production at SCI Waymart. The role focuses on instruction, safety, and oversight to maintain high standards in all food service operations. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Food Instruction: Teach inmates food preparation, baking, service, and safe equipment use
- Safety Oversight: Inspect food areas and supplies to ensure compliance with sanitation standards
- Work Coordination: Plan and review inmate work assignments and maintain related records
- Meal Preparation: Guide the preparation of meals based on recipes and daily needs
- Inventory Control: Request, receive, and store food items while following proper rotation procedures
- Area Monitoring: Maintain care, custody, and control of inmates during work activities

- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM. You will have rotating days off.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework i this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
