Job Purpose

Overall responsibility for end-to-end management of critical logistics and materials both internal and external across all phases of strategically critical, high dollar value, complex projects, ensuring material delivery dates are met, while maintaining consistent tracking across major materials. These include but are not limited to identifying, coordinating, and managing key materials between internal departments, external stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers.

The portfolio this position will typically support includes high dollar and significant projects with regulatory and stakeholder exposure. Much of the portfolio will be at the heart of the New York's clean, fair and affordable energy transition ambition, and will make a significant contribution to National Grid's growth expectation.

The Manager, Logistics and Materials Management will join the Major Project's team reporting directly to the Commercial Director and be in a role that has significant strategic, financial, decision making, and leadership responsibilities. The Manager, Logistics and Materials Management will work closely with other managers supporting major projects, playing a lead role in communicating across all team members supporting the portfolio within Engineering, Procurement, Project Management and Construction Services.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead a team of specialists to develop and execute logistics and materials management plans across a portfolio of electric transmission, distribution and substation projects.
  • Serve as a point of accountability for supplier influence, with a focus on international logistics and leading solutions and mitigation strategies when delays or other supply chain issues are identified.
  • Identify and track key materials between engineering, procurement, construction and operations.
  • Coordinate cross-functional alignment meetings to resolve logistics issues and ensure timely information flow and delivery of materials to key stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for logistics and materials management related matters with internal project management teams and external partners, including contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Drive timely delivery of materials through proactive monitoring and management of logistics and material delivery risks, issues, and dependencies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate quality assurance and quality control activities with manufacturers and during transit.
  • Manage vendors in the event of any quality related events.
  • Maintain logistics and material tracking logs.
  • Support integrated project planning, scheduling, and execution by ensuring all logistics activities are clearly defined and incorporated.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and functional leads to ensure roles, responsibilities, and deliverables are clearly understood across projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement of logistics management processes, tools, and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in project delivery, with specific experience in logistics coordination or materials management cross-functional project roles.
  • 3+ years of people management experience required.
  • ASCM or similar certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of materials management and logistics, especially in utility projects involving transmission, distribution, substations, or generation assets.
  • Familiarity with multi-contract delivery models, including EPC, and owner-managed models.
  • Understanding of utility infrastructure components including key aspects of design and construction and what various disciplines are required to execute them.
  • Knowledge of configuration management, technical standards, and design handover protocols.
  • Understanding of project lifecycle stages, interdependencies, and commissioning processes.
  • Proven experience managing logistics and materials management between contractors, vendors, design teams, and utility stakeholders on large capital projects.
  • Hands-on involvement in developing logistics and materials management plans.
  • Experience leading cross-disciplinary coordination meetings to resolve design and construction clashes and proactively mitigation logistics complications or material delays.
  • Demonstrated ability to track and manage schedules, and risk across multiple work packages.
  • Experience working on complex projects with concurrent work scopes and overlapping schedules.
  • Strong history of issue resolution, conflict management, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Competency with project scheduling tools to map and monitor interface dependencies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings to identify interface points.
  • Understanding of change control, scope alignment, and configuration traceability.
  • Familiarity with risk and impact assessment tools to evaluate materials-related delays or issues.
  • Ability to develop and maintain materials trackers, dashboards, and reporting to stakeholders.

Salary:

MA: $160,000.00 - $188,000.00 USD annually

Upstate NY: $142,000.00 - $167,000.00 USD annually

Downstate NY: $171,000.00 - $201,000.00 USD annually
