Principal Cloud and Infrastructure Architect | Remote | Michigan or Minnesota Preferred

Role Snapshot:

  • Architect the Platform: Design and guide the implementation of scalable, secure, enterprise-grade infrastructure solutions for healthcare clients.
  • Drive Modernization: Lead the transition from legacy on-prem environments to cloud and hybrid models with clear outcomes.
  • Ensure Technical Excellence: Serve as the primary technical authority, ensuring feasibility, performance, and alignment to client needs.
  • Enable Growth: Support presales by shaping differentiated, technically sound infrastructure solutions.

The Principal Cloud and Infrastructure Architect is a senior technical leadership role responsible for selecting, designing, and guiding the deployment of enterprise-grade infrastructure platforms for healthcare organizations. This role serves as the primary technical authority for cloud, hybrid, and onpremises infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on cloudfirst architectures and transition from legacy onprem environments.

This role requires deep hands-on experience with enterprise infrastructure technologies commonly used to support Epic in large healthcare systems, including data center, storage, networking, virtualization, and security platforms. While cloud is the primary strategic focus, the ability to assess, design, and modernize onprem infrastructure is essential.

The Principal Cloud and Infrastructure Architect works in close partnership with a Principal Healthcare Strategist, who owns executive engagement and program direction, while this role owns technical depth, platform design, and implementation feasibility. This role also supports infrastructure and cloud presales by shaping technically sound, differentiated solutions for healthcare clients.

What You'll Accomplish:

Enterprise Infrastructure & Cloud Architecture

  • Serve as the lead technical architect for healthcare infrastructure initiatives, including:

    • Cloud and hybrid cloud platforms
    • Onpremises data center infrastructure supporting Epic workloads
    • Epic Production, NonProduction, Disaster Recovery, and Isolated Recovery Environments (IRE)

  • Design and govern platforms spanning:

    • Compute, storage, networking, virtualization, identity, and security
    • Cloud landing zones and governance frameworks
    • High availability, disaster recovery, and cyberrecovery architectures

  • Lead customers and internal teams through onpremtocloud transition strategies, ensuring platforms are technically sound, operationally viable, and aligned with healthcare requirements.

Epic & Healthcare Platform Technical Expertise

  • Apply deep technical understanding of Epic infrastructure requirements and dependencies.
  • Interpret Epic Cloud Specification Guides (CSGs) and translate requirements into actionable architecture.
  • Ensure Epic environments meet performance, availability, and operational standards across:

    • Onprem environments
    • Cloud environments
    • Hybrid and transitional states

  • Partner with Epic Technical Services and platform vendors as needed.

Technical Delivery & Platform Implementation Leadership

  • Lead and guide infrastructure delivery teams through:

    • Detailed design and architecture
    • Build and deployment
    • Validation, testing, and cutover

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for:

    • Complex infrastructure designs
    • Nonstandard Epic requirements
    • Highrisk or highvisibility initiatives

  • Act as the final escalation point for architectural and deep technical decisions.

Presales & Solution Development

  • Support infrastructure and cloud presales activities for healthcare clients.
  • Partner with sales and account teams to:

    • Shape infrastructure and cloud solution architectures
    • Evaluate platform and technology options
    • Define migration and modernization approaches

  • Contribute to:

    • Technical scoping and estimates
    • Architecture reviews and customer presentations
    • Validation of feasibility, risk, and delivery approach

  • Serve as a senior technical authority during customer-facing presales discussions.

Collaboration & Technical Stewardship

  • Partner closely with the Principal Healthcare Strategist to:

    • Align technical architecture with executive intent and healthcare strategy
    • Support executive discussions with credible technical grounding

  • Mentor architects and senior engineers across cloud and infrastructure disciplines.
  • Establish technical standards, patterns, and best practices for healthcare infrastructure delivery.
  • Identify gaps in tools, skills, or offerings that limit scalability or delivery quality.

What You'll Bring:

  • Deep experience designing and delivering enterprise onprem infrastructure, ideally in healthcare environments
  • Strong hands-on expertise with infrastructure platforms commonly used to support Epic
  • Proven experience designing and implementing cloud platforms, with emphasis on:

    • Azure (preferred), or equivalent cloud architecture experience
    • Hybrid architectures and migration strategies

  • Demonstrated experience supporting Epic infrastructure platforms in production
  • Ability to lead complex technical initiatives endtoend, from architecture through execution

Preferred:

  • Experience with Epic on Azure or Epic cloud/hybrid deployments
  • Background supporting large healthcare systems or other regulated, missioncritical environments
  • Experience contributing to cloud and infrastructure presales
  • Recognized as a senior technical leader capable of influencing both customers and internal teams

Measures of Success:

  • Platforms are stable, secure, scalable, and operationally sound
  • Cloud and hybrid architectures are adopted with confidence by healthcare clients
  • Onpremtocloud transitions reduce risk and operational disruption
  • Strong technical credibility across delivery and presales activities
  • Effective partnership with healthcare strategy and program leadership
