THE POSITION

As a Corrections Food Service Instructor with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Muncy, you will help create a structured and supportive environment for inmate workers. You will teach hands-on food service skills that prepare individuals for future opportunities. Your work strengthens daily operations and contributes to a safe, dependable kitchen. This position allows you to lead by example and take pride in meaningful service.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides food service instruction and guidance to inmate workers while helping maintain safe and efficient kitchen operations. The work supports consistent meal production and high standards of sanitation. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Food Instruction: Teach inmates proper techniques for food preparation, production, service, and baking
- Safety Training: Demonstrate safe and sanitary use of tools, equipment, cleaning methods, and storage practices
- Quality Oversight: Inspect food areas, equipment, and ingredients to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation rules
- Recipe Adjustment: Review census and menu information to adjust recipes and manage leftover food effectively
- Supply Management: Requisition, receive, and store food and supplies while following first-in, first-out procedures
- Work Supervision: Plan, assign, and review inmate work responsibilities and maintain related performance records

- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are to be determined. Available shifts: 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM and 4:45 AM to 12:45 PM, days off to be determined.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
