A Brief Overview
Reporting to the VP/SVP, the Accounting Manager Real Estate Accounting & Reporting performs various duties to support the accounting function's goal of timeliness and accuracy in reporting, including preparation and detailed reviews of external financial statements and real estate asset reporting responsibilities. This position is responsible for ensuring that transactions are reflected in the general ledger in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles ("GAAP"), regulatory, and company policy. Able to understand and articulate their work product from both a GAAP and economic viewpoint to non accountants.

What you will do



  • Conducts real estate asset reporting responsibilities for inclusion in GAAP financial statements, as well as for internal reporting to various stakeholders throughout the company.
  • Manages the month and year-end closing processes, primarily through journal entry approval, to ensure timely, accurate reporting in compliance with GAAP, regulatory, and company policies.
  • Collaborates with other accounting department members to establish/modify procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the month and year end closing and reporting process. Identifies and implements process improvement suggestions.
  • Interacts with external auditors and consultants to assist with various audits and projects. Manages the preparation of supporting schedules, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
  • Reviews and documents accounting implications of complex or significant transactions and may prepare or assist in the preparation of complex journal entries. Presents significant transaction summaries and conclusions to Management and peers.
  • Identifies and determines disclosure requirements specific to the company.
  • Conducts various other reporting deliverables, including total assets under management, gross revenues, leases, company profile statistics (RE units, commercial square footage, land acreage, RE location, etc.).
  • Documents the company's policies and procedures for statistical reporting.
  • Incorporates both general ledger and non-general ledger information reports.
  • Enables a data-driven culture to make faster, more accurate decisions and take action across multiple business units.
  • Manages deadlines and workloads.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or a quantitative field (Economics, Finance, etc.) Required and
  • MBA Preferred
  • 4-6 years reporting and analysis experience with real estate companies. Required and
  • Working knowledge of the accounting and financial reporting modules in modern ERP systems such as Workday. Preferred and
  • Big 4 Accounting firm experience. Preferred
  • Public company consolidated corporate accounting and reporting experience. Preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the chart of accounts, general ledger, trial balance, and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong knowledge of technical GAAP and internal control policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and implement process improvements.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to define problems and organize efficient solutions, analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Displays teamwork by balancing team and individual responsibilities.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel is required.
  • Requires a detail-oriented, self-starter who takes initiative and can be an interactive part of a team.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and industry professionals.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Upon Hire Preferred

We are committed to offering competitive and equitable compensation. This position is also eligible for a performance bonus. Final salaries will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, licenses, certifications, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the general Hiring Range for the role. Hiring at the top of the range is reserved for exceptionally qualified candidates. We consider internal and external factors as a part of every final offer.
