SUMMARY: General Superintendent- Electrical

The general superintendent is a senior-level field leader responsible for overall field operations across a portfolio of projects within a department. The General Superintendent will work closely with other department leaders in the strategic planning and execution of department objectives. Supervises and develops Superintendents, Senior Superintendents, and Site General Superintendents, and drives workforce strategy, standard work practices, and continuous improvement for the department. Reporting to the VP of Field Operations, this role requires close collaboration with all department project teams and various support departments within the organization.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Manage and support all assigned Superintendents, Senior Superintendents, and Site General Superintendents.

* Implement departmental standards; share lessons learned and drive cross-project improvements.

* Forecast and level craft and leadership resources across projects; own weekly field staffing projections for the department and work with the Field Recruiter to manage field labor resources and properly staff projects.

* Participate early in project reviews (scope, specs, execution sequencing, logistics, prefabrication, commissioning plans); contribute to budgets and project execution plans.

* Collaborate with the project management team and operations leaders to ensure proper planning for project execution.

* Champion Helix safety standards; coordinate with Regional Safety to forecast and implement required safety training in the department. Ensure safety requirements are being followed on all projects, that incidents are properly reported, investigated, and corrective actions are taken; model a safety-first culture.

* Set QA/QC expectations; ensure installations meet NEC (NFPA 70), project specs, and all applicable codes/regulations; oversee testing, startup, and commissioning practices.

* Participate in and provide input to the monthly project cost-to-complete sessions.

* Hire in partnership with Field Recruiting; monitor market trends in compensation packages and ensure we are competitive.

* Mentor, coach, and performance-manage field leaders; partner with L&D to identify skill gaps and deliver training modules for field leadership and craft workers.

* Maintain strong communication with GCs/owners, AHJs, trade partners, and internal teams; resolve escalated conflicts and align field operations with project goals.

* Reporting: Provide concise reporting to the VP of Field Operations and senior leadership about departmental and project status.

* Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

* 15+ years in the electrical trade with progressive field leadership experience.

* Proven success delivering large commercial/industrial projects on schedule and budget while leading multiple field teams.

* Strong working knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70); electrical systems and industry practices; familiarity with NFPA 70E safe work practices.

* Proficient reading/interpreting plans, one-lines, shop drawings, submittals, and BIM/VDC coordination outputs.

* Preconstruction support experience (constructability reviews, work plans, logistics, job start-up).

* Demonstrated change management skill (scope identification, field documentation supporting change orders).

* Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

* Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

* Active state journeyman or master electrician license; OSHA 30 and current First Aid/CPR.

* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

* Commitment to safety and quality.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



  • Must be able to work in extreme indoor and outdoor environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, sleet, snow).
  • Must be able to use construction-site sanitary facilities (e.g., portable toilets).
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment at all times on site (helmet, safety glasses, boots, and gloves at all times; respirator when required).
  • Must be able to safely climb and work from ladders and stairs.
  • Must be able to safely operate typical jobsite equipment (scissor lift, boom lift, forklift).
  • Must be able to crawl, stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, sit, reach, and routinely lift, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel between job sites and work extended or off-shift hours as project needs require.
