Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership
  • Provide leadership and supervision for all family birthing staff, including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and support personnel
  • Ensure high-quality, evidence-based care across labor & delivery, postpartum, and newborn services
  • Promote patient safety and oversee clinical standards, policies, and procedures
  • Serve as a clinical resource for complex obstetric and neonatal cases
Operations Management
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Family Birthing Unit, including staffing, scheduling, and patient flow
  • Monitor unit productivity, census, and resource allocation
  • Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and ancillary departments to ensure coordinated care
  • Address operational challenges common to rural healthcare environments (e.g., limited resources, transfers)
Staff Development & Engagement
  • Recruit, train, and retain qualified nursing staff
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed
  • Promote continuing education, certifications (NRP, ACLS, etc.), and professional growth
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and compassionate care

Qualifications:

  • Licensure: State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License or Graduate Nurse Permit required
  • BLS required.
  • BSN required
  • Degree from accredited academic nursing program
