Reporting jointly to the 2 Senior Vice Presidents, Chief Information Officer and Chief Digital Health Officer, the VP of Care Team experience in Digital and Technology Solutions (DTS) is responsible for partnering with leaders across Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) and Yale University to develop and execute strategies and tactics that leverage information technology to achieve organizational goals. This leader directs the evaluation, selection, design, build, testing, implementation, optimization, and integration of enterprise applications and technologies, ensuring alignment to organizational vision, project timelines and budgets, resource allocation, and active risk management. The role ensures that applications are aligned with business, clinical, research, and educational needs and are used optimally as a unifying and transformative tool across the healthcare continuum for YNHHS practices and hospitals, Yale Medicine, and our community physicians. Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership and accountability for care team technology platforms (clinical applications and tools that enable care delivery, clinician workflow, and operational effectiveness), ensuring reliability, adoption, optimization, and alignment to clinical priorities.
- Work closely with the DTS leadership team and especially to the executive leadership for patient experience technology platforms (digital front door, access, engagement, and patient-facing applications), ensuring a seamless end-to-end patient experience across the healthcare continuum that is smoothly integrated with the care team experience.
- Role supports multiple application platforms including Epic EMR, Biomedical Devices/Clinical Engineering, and Enterprise Imaging (Cardiology, Radiology, Pathology) and is responsible for approximately $100M in annual operational expenses.
- Build and lead a Digital and Technology Solutions team that is recognized as a proactive, value-added partner, enabling colleagues to work more effectively and drive measurable value to our key stakeholders across the enterprise.
- Deploy application and technology resources effectively across a spectrum of locations, services, and initiatives with a diverse and increasing number of partners.
- Apply strong healthcare IT leadership and understanding of healthcare delivery practices, standards, and compliance requirements to coordinate and oversee delegation of work, ensuring solutions are delivered effectively, securely, and on time.
- Serve as a change agent to help drive digital transformation across the clinical enterprise
- Develop and maintain team competence and engagement through performance management, including recruiting, retention, training, employee evaluation, and performance reviews.
- Ensure data integrity is preserved and protected so that information is reliable, accessible, and secure.
- Engage and manage vendor relationships to leverage participation and resources optimally and in a coordinated manner, aligned with strategic, fiscal, and operational needs.
- Negotiate vendor terms and contracts in partnership with Legal, Risk Services, Procurement, and business stakeholders to drive optimal value and service delivery for YNHHS/Yale University.
Leadership, Communication & Technical Expectations
- Comfortable holding formal and informal conversations with senior leaders and physicians across the Health System, physician practices, and the University.
- Experienced leading cross-organizational, multi-disciplinary teams to assess, select, budget, plan, and execute clinical and operational initiatives; able to engage diverse customers (including physicians, clinicians, executives, financial staff and others)
- Experienced leading and managing large teams across varying and dynamic spans of control (directors, managers, and team leaders) with multiple, competing priorities.
- Sets vision and direction that improves team efficiency and effectiveness; asks probing questions to ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
- Creates and sustains a collaborative environment grounded in YNHHS values: patient-centered, accountability, integrity, respect, and compassion.
- Comfortable leading teams engaged in system analysis and design; technology evaluation and selection; vendor negotiations; workflow analysis; application/technology installation, maintenance, configuration, and training; testing; change management and quality assurance; and end-user support.
- Oversees project plans, budgets, and schedules for large, complex, cross-departmental initiatives; monitors project status and performance metrics against team and individual goals.
- Independently researches and recommends emerging technologies; provides funding requirements, impact analysis, cost/benefit analysis, and life-cycle forecasting.
- Ensures initiatives comply with technical, security, departmental, and operational policies; pushes creative thinking beyond existing industry practices and client mindsets.
- Communicates effectively with a wide variety of audiences and media; facilitates discussions, provides strategic/tactical direction, and leads business needs assessments.
- Aligns and coordinates projects with outside vendors and business partners; ensures the team anticipates and responds proactively to client needs.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
- MA or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE
- More than ten years of progressive experience leading enterprise technology operations and application delivery in complex large healthcare environments; demonstrated ability to plan and execute projects across multiple domains. Experience in Epic is required, and experience leading Clinical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Enterprise Imaging highly desirable.
