Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 7 to 17 at the time of admission with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, VA, Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues. We also have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or those with self-injurious behavior. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE-approved and certified facility.

The Registered Nurse Supervisor is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care in an assigned unit for residents ages 07-18. Adheres to Nursing Standards and Policies, Facility Policies and Procedures, the Nurse Practice Act, and maintains patient safety.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Responsible for nursing care based on the nursing process and in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Monitors, reports, and documents the residents' behavior and physiological status.
  • Administers medications and performs treatments/procedures in compliance with facility and nursing services, policies, and procedures.
  • Guides the response to residents who are behaviorally out of control or who may be experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the Director of Nursing, Medical Staff with delineated privileges and Physician.
  • Responsible for demonstrating clinical competence in the delivery of direct patient care and the implementation of the milieu management program.
  • Reports accurately and concisely to oncoming shifts regarding conditions of residents both medically and psychiatrically.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing, which confers RN, AD, or Diploma in Nursing.

Licensure/ Certification:

Licensed by Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse. CPR certification.

Experience:

Minimum of 1-3 years supervisory experience working with children and adolescents in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program. Minimum of three years supervisory experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to verbally de-escalate and physically restrain when necessary. Ability to perform CPR and First Aid and Handle with Care. Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions.Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertip.Individual must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
