Summary:

The University of North Carolina (UNC) Medical Center Department of Pharmacy has an opening for a highly motivated pharmacist seeking to join our team of clinical pharmacists. The individual in this position will support patients seen through the UNC Cancer Care hematology/oncology infusion clinic in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The position offers the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment through collaboration with infusion nursing, physicians, APPs, clinical pharmacists, and operational pharmacy teams to provide therapeutic education to patients on chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The position offers the opportunity to develop preceptorship and research skills through pharmacy student and PGY1/PGY2 resident precepting and mentorship.

This individual will report to the Clinical Manager of the Hematology/Oncology Service Line and work closely with Clinical Specialists as well as the Specialty Pharmacists within the UNC Carolina Care Pharmacy Care Network.

The individual in this position will provide comprehensive pharmacist care through therapeutic education to patients seen through the infusion clinic. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing comprehensive pharmacist care to patients and collaborating closely with outpatient clinical pharmacists to ensure continuity of care between infusion and outpatient services.

Clinical Service Responsibilities

  • Educate patients and their caregivers about their hematology/oncology infusion therapy plans
  • Respond to drug information questions from the medical staff, nursing staff, or pharmacy colleagues for same-day clinical questions and infusion-related medication consultation
  • Coordinate medication-related aspects of transitional care
  • Serve as a liaison between the medical team, clinical and operational pharmacy teams, UNC Medication Assistance Program, and specialty pharmacies (including UNC Shared Services Center Pharmacy) to help address medication access barriers and ensure timely processing and delivery of specialty medications and assure all activities are coordinated and consistent

Service Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clinical pharmacists and the infusion pharmacy team on policies, procedures, guidelines, and initiatives associated with this patient population
  • Support medication management goals set forth by the institution or Department of Pharmacy
  • Support the expansion of UNC Health's infusion services through participation in strategic initiatives and process improvement projects
  • Contribute to ongoing quality assurance and outcomes initiatives for the Department of Pharmacy and the Hematology/Oncology Division

Educational Responsibilities

  • Educate students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, PGY1 and PGY2 residents from UNC Hospitals on their experiential rotations
  • Appointment at UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is available with commensurate experience.

    * PharmD or BS Pharmacy Degree
    Licensure/Certification Requirements:
    * Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment. Recent graduates of ACPE-accredited colleges/schools of pharmacy may fill this role while pending initial pharmacist licensure, but are subject to limitations mandated by the NC Board of Pharmacy and must obtain licensure within 6 months of orientation or sooner if required for operations.
    Professional Experience Requirements:

    • Extensive clinical skills and pharmacotherapy knowledge base in hematology/oncology
    • Strong oral and written communication, organizational and prioritization skills
    • Ability to work in team environment
    • Ability to generate meaningful contributions related to clinical pharmacy practice and advancement of pharmacy practice.
    • Ability to design and implement projects, collect and interpret data accurately, and prepare project analyses/summaries/manuscripts
    Preferred:
    • Completion of a Pharmacy Practice (PGY1) Residency or equivalent clinical experience
    • Completion of an Oncology (PGY2) Pharmacy Residency or equivalent clinical experience
    • Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy
