| Job Description Summary |
The
Communications Officer is an essential employee responsible for coordinating and monitoring the Campus Safety response to address calls for service and emergency situations. The Communications Officer is the primary person interacting with customers on the telephone and in-person and for documenting relevant details into the Computer Aided Dispatch system. The Communications Officer is responsible for performing support functions for the Campus Safety Department including, but not limited to, monitoring of a variety of security and fire alarm systems, issuing new and replacement NazCards, issuing controlled keys/ID cards, and processing and issuing parking permits for the entire university. The Communications Officer is responsible for managing student employees tasked with assisting communication functions. Provides general support to the entire Campus Safety Department. This position is responsible for adhering to documented Standard Operating Procedures for all functions within the position's remit. This position is a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Clery Act. |
| Essential Functions |
- Coordinate and monitor Campus Safety response to address calls for service and emergency situations (Situations include telephone calls, in-person traffic, and monitored security systems)
- Communicate relevant information to appropriate Campus Safety (and/or emergency) personnel in a concise and timely manner.
- Perform intake for calls of service (telephone and in-person).
- Collect and document relevant information details and Campus Safety response in the Computer Added Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Provides continuous administrative support to the Campus Safety department. Assists in filing appropriate reports and forms for various walk-ups and follow-up requests.
- Monitors all alarm systems to include fire, security, CCTV, and the personal Safe@Naz alarm system. This includes coordinating and dispatching mutual aid emergency response with various outside agencies (police, fire, ambulance, etc.).
- Processes and issue parking permits for the entire campus (faculty, staff, students, and visitors).
- Answer and provide direction for all questions and/or concerns.
- Assist in troubleshoot issues with technical systems and permit billing.
- Monitors and operates the campus-wide Card Access system to ensure accurate data and security of the system.
- Creates and distributes NazCards for new members of the Nazareth Community and replace lost/damaged cards.
- Coordinates the updating of all campus events on a daily basis to ensure that all staff has accurate and timely information regarding special events, requests, and activities.
- Responsible for maintaining and issuing Campus fleet vehicle keys, specific room keys, and contractors keys/swipe cards.
- Maintain documentation of issuing and returning keys/cards.
- Provide general support to the operations of the Campus Safety Department and other duties as assigned.

- Experience in dispatching, emergency communications, public safety, security, or a related environment.
- Experience using computer-aided dispatch, access-control, alarm-monitoring, or similar technology systems.
- Experience providing customer service in a fast-paced or high-volume environment.
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive information.
- Experience working in a college, university, or other community-based setting.

- No formal supervisory responsibilities.
- May provide day-to-day work direction and task coordination to student employees supporting Campus Safety communications functions.

| Physical Requirements |
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
- Frequent movement into and out of a seated workstation while performing dispatch and customer-service responsibilities.
- Ability to operate telephone, radio, computer, and other communications equipment for extended periods.
