Intern - BTR

HJF is seeking an Intern whose work will involve performance of a variety of laboratory tasks related to understanding the effect of traumatic brain injury to the stress axis. Will provide technical work involving a variety of laboratory support duties. These may include data acquisition, data analysis and assist in the interpretation of data.

This position will be in support of DoD/USU Brain Tissue Repository (BTR) under the Department of Pathology at the Uniformed Services University. The BTR was established by the Department of Defense to advance traumatic brain injury research. The BTR's mission is to better understand the effects of traumatic brain injury and promote overall brain health of the Warfighter. Using the best science, we support our service members and their families to help care for our military personnel after a head injury.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. • Collect and synthesize primary literature
• Organize collections of enriched genes into biological insights
• Perform gene ontology analysis with online tools
• Collaboratively brainstorm with Dr. Rosen to interpret from Xenium data the most complete picture possible of the biology.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum of 0-2 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and supplies
• Ability to follow detailed instructions
• Ability to handle multiple tasks
• Understanding of the neuroendocrine stress axis
• Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust Background check.

Physical Capabilities

• Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

• This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

• The hourly pay range for this position is $20 per hour
