What to Expect
Tesla is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Electrical Engineering team in Austin, TX. You'll help design the electrical distribution system that powers Gigafactory Texas - from vehicle/cell manufacturing and Optimus production lines to our AI training data centers and Terafab, Tesla's newest semiconductor facility.
Our electrical team owns and designs the complete power system from medium voltage distribution down to 120V loads. You'll coordinate across disciplines and partner with Construction to take projects from design through energization. Your skills and knowledge will grow exponentially as you tackle and solve problems related to design, procurement lead times and constructability.
The role requires a highly organized mindset, the ability to drive multi-disciplinary projects, and consistent high performance. This is a full-time, onsite role in Austin.
What You'll Do
- Own electrical power distribution design from scope through construction
- Apply the National Electrical Code (NEC) to develop code-compliant designs
- Coordinate with Design Managers, Manufacturing, Construction and other stakeholders
- Prepare IFP/IFC electrical deliverables (single-line diagrams, panel schedules, grounding drawings, underground conduit drawings, power plans, lighting layouts) in Revit MEP
- Perform field walks and surveys with peers and Construction
- Review equipment submittals and specifications
- Answer RFIs and design questions
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
- 3-5 years of experience in commercial and/or industrial MEP electrical design
- Proficiency preparing and completing electrical deliverables using Revit MEP
- Experience using the NEC to calculate overcurrent protection for conductors and transformers, as well as size conductors and grounding
- Experience designing low voltage distribution (480V to 120V)
- Highly organized, able to prioritize and multitask across projects and comfortable working across disciplines. Strong desire to be part of Tesla and a world-class team focused on achieving amazing results
- Experience with lighting calculations using ElumTools is a plus
