Whether you're beginning your career in electrical design or bringing years of experience to the table, there's something rewarding about seeing your work become part of a fully functioning facility.

At Mead & Hunt, our electrical designers help bring complex food and beverage manufacturing facilities to life, developing the drawings and models that guide how electrical systems are built, connected, and operated.

We're looking for an Electrical Designer (CAD/BIM Technician) to join our Food & Beverage team in Champaign, IL. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, designers, and project managers on meaningful projects, with opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow your career.

As a nationally recognized, employee-owned architecture, engineering, and construction services firm, Mead & Hunt offers the resources of an established organization with a culture where people have a voice, opportunities to grow, and a stake in our shared success.

What You'll Do

You'll help develop electrical designs for food and beverage manufacturing and processing facilities, collaborating with a team that values technical accuracy, practical solutions, and continuous learning.

Depending on your experience, you'll have opportunities to:

  • Create and develop electrical drawings, layouts, and 3D models using CAD/BIM software.
  • Support the design of power distribution, lighting, controls, and other electrical systems for industrial facilities.
  • Work alongside engineers and designers to turn design concepts into clear, accurate construction documents.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure electrical systems integrate with the overall facility design.
  • Assist with equipment layouts, schedules, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Develop your technical skills while contributing ideas, solving problems, and taking on greater responsibility as you grow.

What You Bring

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, pays attention to the details, and takes pride in producing quality work.

Qualifications:

  • An associate or bachelor's degree in CAD/drafting, engineering technology, electrical technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with CAD/BIM software through coursework, internships, training, or professional experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a willingness to learn and collaborate with others.
  • An interest in electrical systems and how they support buildings, manufacturing operations, and industrial facilities.

Additional experience we'd value:

  • Autodesk Revit and BIM-based design.
  • AutoCAD or Rockwell Automation software.
  • Electrical power and lighting layouts, control panels, or equipment connections.
  • Power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), or electrical equipment layouts.
  • Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, food and beverage, or related projects.

Recent graduates and early-career professionals are encouraged to apply. You don't need experience in every area listed above. We value a strong technical foundation, curiosity, and a desire to keep learning just as much as relevant hands-on experience.
