Tax Manager

As a Tax Manager you will help lead the US side of the tax team at a global, S&P 500 company approaching $5 billion in annual revenue and still growing at a high-single-digit pace - a tax team at a point of real change. Over the next several years the function will modernize how its calculations and workpapers are built and reviewed, and this role is at the center of that work: using AI and automation to take the data handling out of tax processes so the team's time goes to analysis, judgment and positions. It is a rare combination - hands-on ownership of the US income tax provision under ASC 740 and of the US international calculations (GILTI/NCTI, FDII/FDDEI, Subpart F, foreign tax credits, Section 987) alongside a mandate to redesign how that work gets done.

The Tax department manages IDEXX's income tax reporting, quarterly provision, and tax compliance across our global operations, including the ASC 740 provision and US federal and international tax calculations. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Global ASC 740 / Federal Income Tax Compliance and works closely with the Director, Tax Accounting & US Domestic Tax, the head of International Tax, finance teams, and outside advisors.

This role is based at our Westbrook, Maine headquarters and is expected to be onsite at least 8+ days per month.

Why this role matters:

The purpose of our global tax team is to report IDEXX's taxes accurately and on time in every jurisdiction, to book the right provision every quarter, and to keep improving how both are done. This role is where the US calculations meet human judgment, and where the next generation of the team's process is designed.

In this role:

+ You will help lead the ASC 740 consolidated income tax provision process for a group with legal entities in 30+ countries, covering current and deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, the rate reconciliation, and the income tax footnote in our 10-Q and 10-K, each quarter and at year-end.

+ You will help manage the working relationship with our external auditors on income taxes, including quarterly reviews, the year-end audit, walkthroughs, and the support behind our key judgments.

+ You will support Finance and FP&A on the effective tax rate, explaining what moved the rate each quarter and contributing to rate and cash tax forecasts.

+ You will help lead US federal income tax compliance, including the consolidated federal return and the US international calculations (GILTI/NCTI, FDII/FDDEI, Subpart F, foreign tax credits) with our outside preparer, with a clear mandate to modernize workpapers and processes using AI and automation.

+ You will help lead the R&D credit process end to end and help build a new R&D reporting process in partnership with Engineering, HR, and Finance.

+ You will develop and document US tax positions, including tax research and technical memoranda, for the Senior Manager, Global ASC 740 / Federal Income Tax Compliance and, on US international matters, the head of International Tax. You will also lead federal audits and notices when they arise.

+ You will lead process improvement across the US workstream, coaching the team in the use of AI tools and raising the standard for how calculations are built, documented, and reviewed.

+ You will manage and develop tax accountants and senior tax accountants across the US tax and International Tax teams, reviewing their work, coaching them, and building their technical skills in ASC 740, federal, and US international tax, and supporting cross-training between teams.

+ You will design and document controls over AI-built calculations and models, working with Tax Technology & Analytics on model governance.

What you need to succeed:

If you have most of this and the rest excites you, we want to hear from you. We would rather talk to you than have you rule yourself out.

+ You have a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

+ You are able to work a minimum of 8 days per month, onsite at our Westbrook, Maine headquarters with the remainder of days working virtually from a home office.

+ You bring several years of progressive corporate income tax experience in public accounting and/or in-house with a large multinational, including recent experience leading work and people at the manager level. We care about what you have done and how quickly you got there, not the year count.

+ You have hands-on experience with US international tax calculations (GILTI/NCTI, FDII/FDDEI, Subpart F, foreign tax credits, E&P) and the related forms (5471, 8858, 8992, 8993, 1118), whether in public accounting or in-house. Depth across every area is not expected on day one; a working command of the mechanics and the appetite to build on it are.

+ You have ASC 740 experience for a multinational consolidated group, including current and deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, rate reconciliation, and disclosure.

+ You have prepared or reviewed a consolidated Form 1120 for a multinational company and have worked with an outside preparer.

+ You bring demonstrated AI proficiency. You have used Claude or a comparable large-language-model tool to build or rebuild a real calculation or workflow, can describe how you tested it against a known result, and can say what you would not let it do unsupervised. Candidates will be asked to demonstrate this during the interview process.

+ Your skillset includes strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain a tax position and the logic behind a calculation to a reviewer, an auditor, and a non-tax leader.

What you can expect from us:

+ $100,000 - $120,000 / year, based on experience

+ Opportunity for annual cash bonus

+ Opportunity for annual equity award

+ Health, dental, and vision benefits effective on Day One

+ 5% matching 401(k)

+ Additional benefits including but not limited to financial support, pet insurance, mental health resources, volunteer paid days off, employee stock purchase opportunities, foundation donation matching, and much more!
