The Impact Institute at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure-eligible Team Scientist at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

We seek outstanding scientists whose research advances the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions to improve HIV testing, prevention, and care outcomes, with a strong emphasis on studying solutions for reducing HIV-related disparities.

The successful candidates will join a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment at the Impact Institute, which focuses on the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ communities and those impacted by HIV. Impact Institute faculty closely work with sibling centers and units across Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine (e.g., Third Coast Center for AIDS Research, Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science, Department of Medical Social Sciences, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Department of Medicine-Infectious Diseases). Candidates will have opportunities to work closely with the HIV Implementation Science Coordinating Center (ISCI), the Third Coast Center for AIDS Research's new HIV Dissemination Science Scientific Working Group, and others. This world-class environment offers robust infrastructure, mentorship, training, and collaborative opportunities for HIV-focused dissemination and implementation research.

The successful candidates will support existing research initiatives in HIV dissemination and implementation science at Northwestern and will be encouraged to pursue independent extramurally-funded research. Each candidate will be jointly appointed to the Impact Institute and a home department determined at time of hire.

For this position, we seek a health economist, implementation scientist, health services researcher, or decision scientist with rigorous expertise in economic methods relevant to the implementation and scale-up of HIV prevention and care interventions. We welcome candidates with established HIV expertise as well as methodologically strong investigators from related areas who are interested in developing an HIV-focused research program. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Economic evaluation of implementation strategies, including microcosting and activity-based costing
  • Cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, and budget impact analyses
  • Return-on-investment and business-case analysis
  • Resource allocation and policy analysis
  • Economic determinants of implementation and scale-up
  • Financial sustainability of evidence-based HIV interventions

Candidates for this position should demonstrate expertise in health economics, economic evaluation, decision science, economic modeling, or related approaches relevant to implementation research and HIV outcomes.

Responsibilities include

  • Conduct or collaborate on innovative research that improves the adoption, implementation, scale-up, sustainment, and dissemination of evidence-based HIV interventions.
  • Collaborate across Northwestern's HIV, implementation science, behavioral science, and health services research communities.
  • Pursue extramural funding from NIH, CDC, HRSA, PCORI, foundations, and other federal or private sources focused on HIV dissemination and implementation science as PI or Co-I.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary initiatives that address HIV-related health disparities and advance population health.
  • Publish findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.

Teaching and Mentorship

  • Mentor postdoctoral fellows and junior investigators.
  • Participate in educational and training programs in dissemination and implementation science, HIV research, and related methodologies.
  • Contribute to Northwestern's mission of developing the next generation of dissemination and implementation scientists and HIV researchers.

Service and Collaboration

  • Participate in departmental, university, and professional service activities.
  • Foster partnerships with healthcare systems, public health agencies, community-based organizations, and affected communities.
  • Contribute actively to collaborative research initiatives across Northwestern's HIV and implementation science ecosystems.

  • Strong publication record commensurate with career stage.

  • Evidence of potential for securing external funding as PI or Co-I.

Associate Professor

  • Qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Established record of externally funded research as PI or Co-I.

  • National recognition in HIV research, dissemination science, implementation science, health economics, or a related field.

  • Strong publication record and evidence of scientific leadership.

  • Demonstrated success mentoring trainees and junior investigators.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or prior NIH funding

  • Expertise in dissemination and implementation science frameworks, hybrid effectiveness-implementation designs, pragmatic trials, or mixed-methods research.

  • Experience conducting research with populations disproportionately impacted by HIV.

  • Experience in community-engaged research and partnership development.

  • Demonstrated expertise in economic evaluation, decision modeling, cost-effectiveness analyses, or implementation economics.
