About the Job

The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine (UMN-CVM) is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Medical Oncologist (ACVIM or ECVIM) to join our dynamic Oncology team. As a member of the Animal Cancer Care and Research Program, you'll contribute to advancing clinical care, research, training, and teaching in a collaborative academic setting. Position

This is a full-time (100% appointment) faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, with tenure-track or contract (non-tenure, clinical) track options available. The salary and rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Continual professional development to allow meaningful contributions to the tripartite mission of the CVM. Negotiable allocation of time for clinical service, teaching, and research, depending on applicant interests and goals.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide clinical service and training in the Veterinary Medical Center.
  • Teach and mentor house officers, graduate students, and DVM students.
  • Engage in independent and/or collaborative research to advance basic and translational Comparative Oncology.
  • Engage in discipline/non-discipline related service to the CVM and other veterinary organizations.

Clinical Opportunities:

  • Large teaching hospital with a wide array of specialty disciplines collaborating to provide optimal and compassionate patient care.
  • State-of-the-art equipment including a 3T MRI, a 128-slice dual-source CT scanner with cardiac gating, interventional radiology suite, and a new Varian EDGE linear accelerator.
  • Medical and Radiation Oncology are an integrated service housed in large windowed spaces.
  • Diverse caseload from a wide referral base including multiple private-practice oncologists in the region to aid in recruitment for trials and share in the demand for care.

Research Opportunities:

  • There are numerous opportunities for cooperative, team-science-based research both within and outside the CVM, including the UMN Medical School, the UMN Masonic Cancer Center (an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center) and its Translational Working Groups.
  • The UMN-CVM Clinical Investigation Center supports clinical studies and preclinical research with technical infrastructure, budgeting assistance, and study coordination according to GCP and GLP guidelines.
  • The University of Minnesota is a member of the V Foundation's Canine Oncology Research Consortium (CORC), the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium, and the Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium (COTC).
  • Outstanding training in grant writing is available, excellent pre-award services are provided, and there are numerous internal and external funding opportunities.

Teaching and Professional Development

  • Contribute to the training and mentoring of medical oncology residents, DVM students, and house officers through clinical and didactic instruction.
  • Receive support and instruction for teaching from the CVM Academic and Student Affairs Office and the Center for Educational Innovation.
  • Many opportunities for professional development including individual mentorship as well as training in leadership, communication, conflict management, DEI, and many others.
  • Opportunities to engage with an active group of veterinary and physician researchers, graduate students, and house officers through attendance at interest groups, journal clubs, and research seminars.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Oncology from ACVIM or ECVIM.
  • Demonstrated clinical and interpersonal skills with a commitment to collaborative patient care, research, and teaching.
