Red Dog Alaska Loader Operator


LOCATION:

Tacoma, WA & Red Dog Alaska

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY:

December 1 - Apr 15: In Tacoma, WA assisting in Maintenance and Repair of Lighterage barge and equipment in Tacoma, WA. Standard workweek is 4 days a week, 10 hours a day.

June 25 - Nov 1: In Red Dog, Alaska Operating Caterpillar front end loaders during discharge operations on lighterage barge. Responsible for refueling of the loaders during cargo operations. Participation in maintenance and repair activities as assigned. Loader operator is expected to work two (2), five (5) hours shifts per day, dependent on weather.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure loader's proper operation. Notify or report any discrepancies to the Barge Supervisor immediately.
  • Responsible to refuel the loader after each discharge operation and checking of all fluid levels and top off as required; grease fittings as required.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the loader inside the control cab to minimize airborne contaminates and for cleanliness of the loader externally.
  • Concise communications via VHF radio with Barge Supervisor as regards to cargo operations.
  • Participation in maintenance and repair and cleaning as directed when not performing cargo operations.
  • Remain vigilant to prevent spills.
  • Ensure there is no product spillage.
  • Cross train for other positions.
  • Participation in the Lead Compliance Program with respect to monthly blood testing, fitting and proper utilization of respiratory protection


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Responsible for the safe operation of the loader to avoid injury to yourself and/or fellow employees is primary.
  • The safe operation of the loader to avoid damage to equipment is also high priority.
  • Ensure that personal safety equipment issued is used at all times and is properly maintained.
  • Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures as stated in the Barge Supervisor's Manual.
  • Adherence to the Foss Drug and Alcohol Policy as well as all policies and work rules in the Foss Employee Handbook.
  • Stop operation in the event of a safety or environmental contamination issue.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess or be willing to get a valid TWIC card.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Subject to weather conditions, including exposure to high noise levels and exposure to heat and cold.
  • Work is performed in the field, subject to weather conditions.
  • Candidate must be able to work in confined spaces wearing safety equipment such as, hard hat, gloves, boots, rain gear, and respirators for protection from harmful dust and fumes.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit/stand; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move between buildings, ascend/descend stairs and go outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • One needs the ability to climb ladders and over bulwarks.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must have reasonable sensory skills. Including color vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination and hearing.
  • Must be proficient in the English language.
  • Must be flexible and receptive to change.
  • Must be able to fly in a fixed-wing aircraft.

Compensation

Pay for this position will be $24.79 - $27.66 per hour depending on experience.
