Regional Leader of Planning - Landscape, Urban Design and Planning

The HOK St. Louis studio is looking for a Regional Leader of Planning - Landscape, Urban Design and Planning. As a global firm specializing in design, architecture, engineering, and planning, and proudly founded in St. Louis, we are thrilled to engage in groundbreaking and visionary projects every day. The Regional Leader of Planning will collaborate closely with our Planning team across the region in various areas, including business and client development, project design and delivery, fiscal management, strategic insight, community outreach, and staff development. In this role, the ideal candidate would be expected to:




  • Enhance the design process by fostering positive relationships with industry professionals and clients and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and consultants.
  • Exhibit creative thinking that aligns with HOK's design excellence strategy, understand the interplay between design and constructability, and excel in problem-solving.
  • Participate in regional planning, marketing, and business development, including proposal preparation, interviews, public speaking, and other marketing and press activities.
  • Engage in intra-company agreements, contracts, and deliverables, ensuring adherence to HOK's project management standards.
  • Design and manage planning and urban design projects.
  • Apply effective conflict resolution techniques with clients and project teams and proactively provide staff development opportunities.
  • Integrate sustainable design solutions into planning projects.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Required Skills

  • Lead the regional Planning department with a collaborative leadership style that values both internal and external relationships.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.
  • Think strategically, implement change, enforce policy, and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Prioritize tasks for yourself and others to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality service to clients.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with external clients and internal staff.
  • Expertly present, sell, and negotiate HOK's services.
  • Show creativity, passion, and interest in the design and planning of projects.
  • Have advanced knowledge in planning, design development, and project leadership.
  • Be well-versed in sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in urban design, urban planning, or landscape architecture. Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience, preferably 15 plus, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership role.
  • Registration with current license required if offered in your region.
  • LEED AP or GA required within 12 months of employment. #LI-KN1
