Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Clinical Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Position Summary The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is recruiting two full-time clinical medical physics faculty members at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Successful candidates will join the department's medical physics group and provide comprehensive clinical physics services across the USC radiation oncology network. Site assignments will reflect departmental needs, candidate expertise, and program priorities; candidates may support more than one location, including sites in Los Angeles, Pasadena, Arcadia, and Newport Beach. Clinical responsibilities may include treatment planning for IMRT, VMAT, SRS, and other radiation therapy techniques; patient-specific quality assurance; equipment quality assurance; commissioning and acceptance testing; radiation safety and regulatory compliance; and collaboration with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, and other members of the care team. Gamma Knife radiosurgery may be part of an assignment based on program needs. Gamma Knife experience is a plus, but is not required for every position. Candidates will contribute to the department's academic mission through teaching and mentoring medical physics residents and trainees. Participation in quality and safety initiatives, program development, and scholarly activities is encouraged and supported in keeping with the candidate's rank and interests. Academic appointment and rank are subject to the standard Keck School of Medicine review process. The medical physics group supports clinical operations, research, education, quality, and safety across this network. Clinical services and equipment vary by site. Across the network, platforms and capabilities include Varian TrueBeam and Halcyon linear accelerators; stereotactic technologies such as HyperArc and ExacTrac; CT simulation and respiratory motion management; Gamma Knife radiosurgery; HDR brachytherapy; and ocular plaque brachytherapy. The department also supports IMRT, VMAT, image-guided radiation therapy, radiosurgery, and SBRT. Duties and Responsibilities * Provide direct clinical physics support at assigned sites and cross-cover other locations as needed. * Evaluate treatment plan feasibility and quality in collaboration with physicians and dosimetrists; assist with complex planning and treatment delivery questions. * Perform or oversee patient-specific quality assurance and equipment quality assurance to support safe, accurate treatment delivery. * Support radiation safety, quality management, and regulatory compliance, including documentation and annual reporting as assigned. * Perform or supervise acceptance testing and commissioning of treatment delivery hardware and software; maintain records and help resolve equipment performance issues. * Support brachytherapy, in-vivo dosimetry, stereotactic treatments, and other clinical services as appropriate to assigned site and expertise. * Teach and mentor residents, students, and other trainees; contribute to research, scholarship, quality improvement, and program development in line with interests and role. Minimum Qualifications * MS or PhD in Medical Physics or a related field. * ABR or ABMP board certification, or eligibility for board certification. * Strong clinical preparation in radiation therapy physics. Highly qualified applicants currently completing an accredited medical physics residency will be considered, including current residents expected to complete residency in July 2027. Preferred Qualifications* Clinical experience in radiation therapy physics. * Experience with Gamma Knife radiosurgery. * Experience with Eclipse, ARIA, and related systems. * Experience teaching or mentoring medical physics residents or trainees. * Interest in clinical research, program development, or quality improvement. * Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
