Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, in conjunction with Integral Care, seeks a board certified/board eligible psychiatrist to serve as Associate Program Director of our General Psychiatric Residency Program and join our clinical faculty in Austin, Texas. Successful candidates will have a strong interest in graduate medical education and a desire to contribute to the development of clinical, educational and research initiatives that revolutionize how people get and stay mentally healthy in Central Texas and beyond.

About the Position

The Psychiatry Residency Program combines a rich history with the excitement of new collaborations and opportunities, built by energetic new faculty members and world class researchers engaging in bold new programs. Our current residency class trains twelve residents within each graduate class year. Residents rotate through a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings at UT Health Austin, Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, Ascension Seton Behavioral Health, Ascension Seton Shoal Creek, Dell Children's Medical Center, Austin State Hospital, and multiple local mental health community clinics.

We seek candidates committed to providing exemplary care and treatment that restores hope and helps patients live healthier, fuller lives. The successful candidate's appointment within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences requires regular participation in educational activities with medical students, residents, and fellows in broad clinical settings. Additionally, this physician will have opportunities for collaborations that allow for the pursuit of innovative clinical programming and research initiatives.

Responsibilities



  • Assist the Residency Program Director with administration and operations of the residency program, teaching and scholarly activity, resident recruitment and selection, orientation, evaluation, promotion, and disciplinary action, and resident education in the context of patient care.
  • Assume other responsibilities as delineated in the Residency Program Requirements of the ACGME.
  • Assist with the design and conduct of the program in a manner consistent with the program aims, including objectives and measures of effectiveness, and regularly reevaluate the aims for consistency with the needs of the community and missions of the University of Texas Dell Medical School. Regularly organize a Program Evaluation Committee to assess the quality of the program according to standards established by the ACGME.
  • Ensure best practices of compliance with ACGME standards, including curriculum development, trainee evaluation and feedback, policy development and implementation, monitoring duty hours and trainee wellness, while also assessing and documenting the competency of each trainee and continually evaluating the educational process.
  • Lead residents, listen to their concerns and advocate for tangible changes that positively impact resident well-being and learning.
  • Collaborate closely with Clinical and Research Division Leaders to create and integrate high-quality experiences for learners and maintain and liaise with clinical leadership across sites to ensure compliance with respective clinical expectations at each site by the trainees.
  • Take appropriate action as needed to ensure acceptable clinical performance and professional conduct.
  • Maintain collaborative leadership with other University of Texas Dell Medical School Fellowship programs.
  • Support the implementation of actions pertaining to the Program taken by the Graduate Medical Education Committee, Medical Staff, Executive Staff of Dell Medical School, or the ACGME
  • Support the organization of the Program, including the curricula, resident, and faculty schedules, and implementation of educational objectives
  • In addition to duties as Associate Program Director, the selected candidate will also provide clinical services and direct supervision of residents in their primary clinical assignment.

Qualifications

  • Current certification in General Psychiatry
  • Prior experience with psychiatry education program leadership, administration, and teaching in ACGME-accredited training programs.
  • Strong character, leadership, and communication skills
  • Demonstration of outstanding academic accomplishments and trajectory which may include innovative educational program development, excellence in teaching, clinical leadership, or research.
